A speciality at the La Pirogue is that the rooms open to a palm grove, set in well maintained gardens, with a view of the sea. There are inviting hammocks, gently swaying in the tropical breeze.

Soothing shades of coral and vanilla make up the décor of the rooms. All the rooms offer amenities that ensure that the stay is comfortable. There is an A/C, a balcony or a patio, mini bar, tea/coffee making facilities and satellite TV.

The bars and restaurants are grouped around the hotel's impressively large pool, which measures more than 1000 m² in area and which visually merges into the Indian Ocean.

Guests can enjoy multi-theme buffets at the main restaurant, Thatches. Or they could go for island cuisine at lunchtime and traditional tea with pastries and pancakes at the Paul and Virginie Restaurant. Dinner is a more sophisticated affair, with fine seafood and remarkable wines from South Africa and the new world.

The Beach Bar and Pool Deck, near the Nautical Club, serves a variety of light snacks in a relaxed atmosphere around the pool.

Citronellas Café, located between La Pirogue and its adjoining sister hotel, the Sugar Beach Resort, offers a truly Mediterranean experience with traditional Italian cuisine.

Nights come alive with entertainment offered by the resort's resident band and world class theme shows, including Sega Shows.

La Pirogue offers myriad activities for the young and the old. Selected free land and water sports include activities such as basketball, bocci ball, beach volleyball, glass bottom boat, snorkelling and windsurfing.

Scuba diving (PADI courses available), big game fishing, parasailing, and horse riding can be arranged for at additional cost. Children and teenagers will find a range of fun activities at the Kids Club and Teen Club, where they may enjoy their holiday under the watchful eye of specially trained hostesses.

La Pirogue's guests have free access to the Sugar Club, the air-conditioned health and fitness centre in the adjoining Sugar Beach Hotel. The fitness centre is just a short walk away, on the other side of the palm grove. The fitness centre also houses a hair dressing salon, a beauty parlour providing beauty care and massages for a fee, and a sauna which is free of cost.
