Mauritius Accommodation Meridien Hotel Sustainability

Starwood Hotels and Resorts Worldwide, Inc

Le Meridien brand dates to 1972 by the Air France group and contained 1000 hotel rooms in Paris. After an expansion of two years, the group developed more hotels in Europe and Africa. By 1991, the number of hotels had developed to 58 hotels throughout the world.

By 1994, it was decided that Le Meridien was to be bought by Forte but it was taken over from Forte by Granada Group plc in 1996. After a number of aquisitions, namely by the group Compass Group, Nomura International plc, Principal Hotels and Lehman Brothers Holdings, Le Meridien brand and management fee was finally aquired by Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide, Inc. A joint venture was formed by Lehman Brothers and Starwood Capital (not linked with Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide, Inc).
